Loughborough University Law School
Creating a modern Moot Courtroom with WolfVision Judicial Solutions
Replicating Professional Courtrooms
Loughborough University is recognised as one of the UK’s leading institutions for teaching quality and graduate prospects. Within this environment, Loughborough University Law School delivers a modern approach to legal education, with a strong focus on social justice, employability and interdisciplinary study. Its academics undertake impactful legal and socio-legal research, driving real-world change and ensuring students are prepared for the challenges of contemporary legal practice.
To further strengthen this commitment, the Law School invested in a new Moot Courtroom (known as mock courtroom in USA) designed to reflect the structure and functionality of modern judicial environments. Installed by UK sales partner GVAV The technological foundation of the Moot Courtroom is WolfVision’s Judicial Solution, providing the structure and control required for professional courtroom simulation.
The completed installation provides modern judicial technology found in leading courtrooms worldwide. At its core, WolfVision’s Cynap Pro, vSolution MATRIX and COMPOSER, together with ten Cynap Pure Receivers, deliver structured content routing and professional evidence presentation across the entire courtroom.
Participants can present material from multiple positions within the room, with content distributed intelligently to designated displays for judges, counsel, witnesses and observers. Built on an AVoIP architecture, vSolution MATRIX enables flexible and secure distribution of content throughout the space. Beyond simple signal routing, the system reflects authentic judicial workflows. Evidence can be previewed, selected and released in a controlled manner, ensuring that material is displayed only once it has been deemed admissible. This reinforces procedural discipline and mirrors the safeguards present in professional courtrooms.
It was important for us to provide students with access to the same modern courtroom technologies they will encounter in professional practice. The new Moot Courtroom gives them hands-on experience with structured evidence presentation and content management in an environment that closely reflects real-world judicial settings.”
Aaron Turlington-Smith AV Manager - Loughborough University, UKPreserving the Integrity of Courtroom Workflows
COMPOSER provides an intuitive control layer, allowing authorised users to manage sources and displays through a simple drag-and-drop interface. Content can be routed dynamically between the judge, counsel, witness and public displays as required, without disrupting proceedings. This ensures the integrity of courtroom workflows is maintained while keeping operation straightforward for academic staff.
This structured content management closely mirrors professional courtroom practice, enabling students to develop advocacy skills, evidence handling techniques and procedural understanding in an environment that feels authentic.
Digital evidence can be shared, compared and reviewed dynamically, reinforcing both technical confidence and legal argumentation. A WolfVision Visualizer is also incorporated into the overall system, and is used when physical evidence needs to be displayed. By recreating the operational logic of a real courtroom, the Moot Courtroom supports deeper engagement and strengthens practical skills development.
A Flexible, Dual-purpose Teaching Space
Space utilisation was a key consideration in the design of the new facility. The Moot Courtroom was therefore created not only as a specialist judicial training environment but also as a fully functional general teaching space.
A lectern positioned at the front of the room allows the space to transition smoothly between courtroom configuration and traditional classroom mode. In judicial mode, the room supports simulated hearings and structured advocacy exercises. In classroom mode, it functions as a standard teaching space suitable for lectures, seminars and interdisciplinary sessions. This dual-purpose capability ensures high occupancy and long-term value. Rather than limiting the room to specialist use, the University has created a flexible teaching environment that supports both law-specific training and wider academic needs.
Easy Integration and Simplified Management
The Moot Courtroom integrates with WolfVision’s vSolution Link Pro platform, already deployed across the University to manage its fleet of WolfVision Visualizers and Cynap systems. This provides centralised monitoring, consistent configuration management and a familiar user experience for academic staff.
Wireless presentation and document visualisation align with existing campus workflows, reducing the learning curve and allowing lecturers to focus on teaching rather than technology. For the AV team, standardisation simplifies support, reduces complexity and ensures long-term operational consistency.
The project was led by Aaron Turlington-Smith, Loughborough University’s AV Manager, who sought a solution that could deliver modern courtroom standards while remaining practical and sustainable.
Delivering Capability with Long Term Value
After reviewing several technology options, WolfVision’s Judicial Solution was selected for its specialist educational focus, flexibility and overall cost-effectiveness. The platform delivers advanced courtroom functionality while remaining intuitive to operate and adaptable for dual-purpose teaching.
The result is a modern Moot Courtroom that combines professional realism with flexible design. It strengthens Loughborough Law School’s commitment to high-quality legal education and provides students with an environment that reflects the expectations of contemporary judicial practice.
