Active learning classroom using Cynap

Productos utilizados

Founded in 1890, Washington State University (WSU) is a public research university in Washington, USA. With around 30,000 students across its four campuses, it is the second largest institution for higher education in the state of Washington.

At the College of Education on the Pullman Campus, WSU had a need for a flexible presentation solution to equip a new active learning classroom. The room had to work as a study room as well as an instructional space, and in order to meet these multi-functional requirements, WSU has installed a WolfVision vSolution MATRIX system using 1x Cynap system and 4 Cynap Core units.

Four 70“ Dell touch monitors, one for each Cynap Core have been installed together with two projectors connected to the main Cynap system. A touchscreen monitor at the podium is provided for controlling the Cynap, and a computer and document camera are also connected to the Cynap at the podium. The computer is also connected to the room microphones, and a camera is also available for Zoom support.

There are also 35 laptops in a cart, available for use as required. Steelcase active learning desks complete the setup. A key advantage of the vSolution MATRIX solution is that in addition to having all four display screens interconnected and working together, it is also possible to operate each of the four screens independently of the main instructor station. This enables students to use the monitors for individual breakout activities, and effectively gives ‘four separate rooms in one’.

Installation and usability are what makes the vSolution MATRIX so inviting as it really is very simple to set up and use.

The Cynap and Cynap Core systems provide support for AirPlay, Chromecast and Miracast mirroring protocols, which means that all users can easily connect wirelessly, without needing to pre-install apps or use additional software or dongles. The PIN function is activated for wireless mirroring, and this enables instructors to decide when students are allowed to share their content on-screen. Lecturers remain in control of on-screen content, and any disruption or distractions in the classroom are avoided. For viewing displayed content materials easily from around the room, the browser viewer feature is used. Simply typing the IP address of a Cynap Core into an HTML browser on a mobile device, enables convenient viewing of all on-screen content on the student‘s own smartphones, laptops or tablets.

WolfVision MATRIX 'Room View' at Washington State University

Instructors have a very easy-to-use control interface on a touchscreen monitor, which allows them to simply ‘drag and drop’ to push files out to the workstations, or move on-screen content between screens. The instructor’s ‘Room View’ is customized to match the actual room layout, which makes it extremely easy to stay in control of classroom sessions. WSU has also installed WolfVision vSolution Link Pro remote management software, about which, Matthew Vaughn, Director of Information Services at The College of Education, WSU said: “We have been very pleased with the vSolution Link Pro management software which has really simplified remote setup, monitoring and updating of all our WolfVision systems.“

Commenting further on the overall solution, Matthew Vaughn said: “Installation and usability are what makes the vSolution MATRIX so inviting as it really is very simple to set up and use. Additional features have been added with each firmware update, and so we see its capabilities constantly expanding, and not simply sitting static. Where we see the MATRIX system also shine is when we have instructors who want to breakout into groups. We really like the Cynap product line, and have received very good support.“

WolfVision is extremely proud to play a key supporting role in student education at Washington State University, and it is exciting to see how they have successfully implemented this state-of-the-art AV over IP active learning classroom collaboration solution.
